The secularization of Christmas from the People’s Republic of Massachusetts

Posted by Sal on November 26, 2005

Massachusetts is again proving itself worthy of the title “People’s Republic”. On December 1, Boston will celebrate the lighting of its “Holiday Tree”. So let me get this straight. It’s OK to display a Menorah (rather than a “Holiday Candelabra”) or Kwanzaa symbols, but we can’t even call a Christmas tree a Christmas tree.

This country was founded on principles that are historically Christian-based. Why is it so hard for people to realize that we can and should acknowledge those historical principles, and even celebrate them as a country, while still not “Respecting an Establishment of Religion.” What is being done instead is the complete secularization of society, which was not what the founders advocated or intended.
