Senator Menendez (D- NJ)

Posted by Mike on December 9, 2005

NJ Governor-elect John Corzine will appoint Rep. Robert Menendez to replace him in the U.S. Senate. Corzine said the selection was not an easy choice. I agree with Corzine. Choosing a Democrat to be a suitable Senator is like walking into a Quik-E-Mart in search of suitable Chirstmas presents for your entire family. Trust me, you won’t find a Santa’s Little Helper in that mess of a party.

But don’t fret Jersey people. The GOP has a shot at defeating Menendez next year. I know New Jersey has been nothing but a tease lately, but there is hope. Kean is the type of “Republican” who can win there. Exciting I know but at least Kean is better than nothing.

Friar Basketball

Posted by Mike on December 9, 2005

Bill Reynolds of the Providence Journal discusses the declining interest in college basketball in the State of Rhode Island. I think Reynolds oversimplifies the issue, but his observations are nevertheless valid.

Our beloved Friars have a proud basketball tradition thirsting for revival. I am hopeful that PC can make some needed changes, such as better student seating, heightened scrutiny of Coach Welsh’s performance, a more enthusiastic infusion of Friar spirit from orientation until graduation (i.e. eliminating the influence of Sharon Hay and her ongoing 14 year daydream), and thinking long term, an on-campus arena. Now that Providence College has a President who at least knows what a basketball looks like, maybe some of these changes can be forthcoming.

WARNING: Rhode Island’s newspaper of record (hold on… must clean coffee off computer screen…..) requires free registration. Just type in 555-5555 as your phone number. They’re too dumb to notice.

The GOP has put out a brilliant “white flag” ad that points out the surrender mentality of the Democratic party. To coin a phrase from our British friends, “Brilliant, just brilliant.”

The International Community Speaks, Iran is Shaking

Posted by Mike on December 9, 2005

Hey Iran! The international community is losing its patience. If you don’t stop, we’re going to pass a U.N. resolution. If that doesn’t work, we’ll pass another one. Then if that doesn’t work, then we’ll tell Kofi! It’s better that the international community is saying something rather than nothing but call me skeptical. We’ve seen diplomats follow up tough rhetoric with inaction before.

As Ann Coulter once said: “international law is like Santa Claus. The only difference is that Santa Claus exists only in the imaginations of small children, whereas international law also exists in law school classrooms. In the corporeal world, international law is whatever the United States and Great Britain say it is.”
