Three Native Rhode Islanders Commenting From the Right on Politics and Anything Else

Divisional Sunday

What a weekend for pro-football!!! I went 3-1 overall in my picks, but each game was either won or lost in the last minute or in overtime. The Patriots pulled a victory out of sure defeat yesterday in their 24-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers. It was as close to a boxing match that pro-football can get. The Chargers looked the better team throughout most of the game, but the Pats kept it close. Both defenses were awesome, and in the end it came down to the fourth quarter and a game of wills. The underdog Pats went to San Diego to face a rested team with the league’s best record and the league MVP in running back LaDanian Tomlinson… and won! However, as a Pats fan I wonder if the victory was too Pyrrhic going into next week’s battle at Indy, who’s newly rejuventated on defense and gets one extra day to scheme.

The Seahawks and Bears also played yesterday. It came down to a field goal in overtime to push the Bears ahead 27-24 in their close-played victory. It was a cold and messy day, as it was a messy game, but good football nonetheless!

So next week the Conference match-ups revolve around what appears to be two more really great football games: the Saints at Chicago and New England at the Colts. I’d love to see a Saints/Pats Superbowl, but I’d also love to see an Indy/Saints Superbowl. Heck, I’d even like to see a Superbowl XX rematch between the Pats and Bears, and who would want to see Manning beat anyone for his first ring!
