Chrissy Matthews to Moderate Republican Debate

Posted by Mike on April 17, 2007

The Republican candidates for President are scheduled to meet on May 3 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in a debate to be moderated by none other than MSNBC’s Chrissy Matthews. One thing the GOP candidates shouldn’t do is act like Democrats by refusing to attend. In fact, I think Chrissy as moderator is a blessing in disguise.

Rabidly anti-everything that is right with the world, Matthews will undoubtedly inject his anti-war bias and other tidbits of conventional “wisdom” into his questioning. However, unlike on Whiffleball, the Republicans will have the opportunity to respond uninterrupted. This is a golden opportunity for the candidates to defend conservative values while exposing Chrissy’s bias for what it is. The candidates who do so are more likely to win my vote.

Chrissy was one of the many Iraq war drum beaters. Even today, he has a hard time putting down a republican without quickly adding in something nice about the person. Personally, I think republicans will feel very comfortable with Chrissy moderating their debates. I bet Chrissy will even help them as they debate.

I also welcome Chrissy to moderate (talk about bias…remember, he was a Carter hack). If he repeats his 2004 bullying , I would love to see a response similar to
    this …one can dream.

How does a guy who has a show with a rotating guest lives of 12 vocal liberals wind up hosting the GOP Presidential debates? Yes, the GOP can show its got more character by not refusing to debate like Democrat candidates do in fear/protest of a moderator, but whoever tapped Matthews made a dreadfully bad judgment.

There is one issue where Matthews is not on the same page as the rest of the establishment media, and that is immigration.

Matthews is NOT a believe in the open-borders philosophy of Ted Kennedy and George Bush.

Considering that immigration is now viewed as the #1 or #2 issue in the Republican campaign, there’s an excellent opportunity here for McCain & the other open-borders advocates to justify their extremist views on this issue.

I hope Matthews takes advantage of that opportunity.
