It’s Cold in William Jefferson’s Office

Posted by Ryan on June 4, 2007

Louisiana Congressman William “The Fridge” Jefferson was indicted today on 16 charges relating to bribery, racketeering, money laundering and obstruction of justice.  Remember, he was the guy who had $90,000 cash in his office freezer back in 2005.  The investigation led the authorities to dig in and finally indict Jefferson despite his and other Democrat complaints about a separation of powers issue regarding the executive branch’s ability to search a legislators office.  Republican Leader John Boehner quickly moved to try to get Congress to vote on Jefferson’s expulsion.  Bold move, and much appreciated as the Republicans have to refocus the lame charges of general corruption away from themselves and towards this obvious case of criminal wrong-doing.

Why did he pick the freezer though … was the money going to spoil if left out?
