Spielberg’s Endorsement

Posted by Ryan on June 13, 2007

Let me just go on the record saying how much I despise Hollywood types who think we care what they think, or even worse, those who try to be our moral superiors and tell us what we should think.  Such activism taints the films and roles that they’re in, which is a shame since the figure as an artist is marred by the figure who is politically dumb.  So, when word came that Steven Spielberg was endorsing She Who Must Not Be Named, I rolled my eyes and laughed a bit.  Yet, not just because we care (in the final analysis we really don’t) but because of his statements:

Please note the following has been edited for content as her actual name was used in Spielberg’s statement.

“I’ve taken the time to familiarize myself with the impressive field of Democratic candidates and am convinced that [She Who Must Not Be Named] is the most qualified candidate to lead us from her first day in the White House…. [She Who Must Not Be Named] is a strong leader and is respected the world over. As president, she will bring America back together, rebuild our prestige abroad and ensure our protection here at home.”

I love the line “she will bring America back together.”  Aside from Dubya, she is far and away THE most divisive person in American politics.  I have had dozens of non-politically savvy friends ask me with true concern in their voice, if she might become our next President.  All of those people were women.  I know its just an anecdote, but the question remains, why would America trade in it’s most divisive person for the number two most divisive person in consecutive elections?  And how is she going to bring anyone together?  70% of the time the Libs can’t even logically explain why they hate Bush.  The right has a plethora of real substantive and logical reasons why they loathe SWMNBN.  If anyone’s going to bridge-build, it’s not her.  But the sad point is that Spielberg may actually believe that she can and will proselytize all the way until November 2008.

If she is the Democrat candidate (I am still not conviced she will be as I still believe Algore will jump in and get the nomination), there is a strong chance that what recently happened in France will happen here, despite the media push for SWMNBN.

That would be sweet, but I agree that Algore will succumb to his party’s will and try to pull a Nixon in 2008.
