General Pace May Run

Posted by Mike on October 4, 2007

National Review asked him to do it. The Washington Post is reporting he might actually go for it. If he jumps in, he’d probably win it. Rumor has it that retired Marine General Peter Pace is considering a run for the open U.S. Senate seat in Virginia. After the recent string of retirements and foot tapping coming from the Senate GOP, this may be the piece of good news conservatives have been itching for.

Right now the names circulating as possible Republican candidates in Virginia are Rep. Tom Davis, former Governor Jim Gilmore, and Rep. Eric Cantor. Unfortunately, Davis is a moderate Republican with a knack for grandstanding, Gilmore is as exciting as Sam Brownback, and Cantor hasn’t shown any interest.

General Pace would make an interesting candidate. He is an articulate conservative with solid military credentials. He isn’t running yet, but if he does, it will be the first piece of good news on the Senate front since Corker survived 2006.

That would be incredible news! Why not jump into the Presidential race while he’s at it? I think he’d pull anywhere from 15-24% and raise about $8-15 million next quarter… but then again, so is everyone else in the Republican field.
