Conspiracy Theory Put To Bed, Maybe

Posted by Mike on April 30, 2008

The first conspiracy theory I heard regarding the last Russian tsar’s family was that Princess Anastasia escaped execution by the Bolsheviks and was living somewhere in Europe. Leonard Nimoy (or whatever that dude who played Spock is called, help me out Ryan) even hosted spooky shows about it. That is, until 1991 when the Princesses remains were recovered along with most of the other Romanovs who were murdered by the Communists.

Today, DNA tests have confirmed that Russian Orthodox Saints Czarevich Alexei and Grand Duchess Maria, the last of the Romanovs did not survive. Conspiracy theory over. Actually, I can’t back that up. You never know with those kind of people.

Yes, Commander Spock was played by Leonard Nimoy. Handily the best actor in the original cast, which is probably why he survived the failure of the original pilot, “The Cage.” I mean, James Doohan and DeForest Kelley aren’t bad, and George Takei is okay … I’ll give Nichelle Nichols the benefit of the doubt and say that she probably would have done better if the very fact that she was on the bridge wasn’t a pretty radical move on Gene Roddenberry’s part. But Nimoy is certainly the best of them.

Note how William Shatner didn’t get mentioned in the subject of decent actors. There’s … a … reason … for … that.

Oh, wait … that wasn’t supposed to be your main point. Yeah, good call. But we’ll see if people just think that the DNA tests were faked to throw us off the fact that the Princess Anastasia is actually living secretly on an island nation, no doubt entertained by Elvis.
