Obama Disses Trinity United Church

Posted by Ryan on May 31, 2008

OK, so there’s this bus that Obama has.  He occasionally throws his Pastor, old friends, and grandmother under it.  This time, he’s announced that he’s altogether leaving the Trinity United Church after sitting in the pews for 20 years… except for the time he got married there and had his kids baptized there as well!  It’s getting in the way of his political career so it has to go.

I think back to just March 18 of this year when Obama said in a well-received speech on religion:

“I can no more disown [Reverend Wright] than I can disown the black community.”

March was, like, ancient history to a Democrat, however.

If his religious foundations, principles, and longtime friends can be tossed away so quickly, what will he do as President if things get uncomfortable there?  This further makes Obama look like a typical heartlessly shrewd politician willing to toss people away when things get uncomfortable, not a man who’s trying to be above the fray.

Obama disowned Rev. Wright and now has disowned his Church of 20 years and black people better think real hard about when the time will come that Obama will disown them when he needs their vote no longer.

Great point! If Obama puts Richardson on the ticket and shows more Hispanic support in the polls, then why would he need the black vote at all? Maybe he’ll pick grandma up from under the bus at that point.

What really frustrated me about the press conference last night was that Obama indicated that if it would have been politically expedient to dump his church he would have done so when he announced last year. None of his syncophants in the press core bothered to follow up and ask, “Well, Senator, didn’t you dis-invite Reverend Wright to your announcement ceremony in February 2007 and doesn’t that indicate a discomfort with your Reverend of 19 years at the time, perhaps for political expediency?”

Obama would have looked flustered, refused to answer the question or “accept the premise”, and have egg all over his face.
