It’s a sad day when there’s about a 50 percent chance that some MSM outlet will run with this satirical piece by Jim Treacher thinking its reality, or at least thinking they can trick people into thinking its reality.

Republican National Convention, Day 2

Posted by Mike on September 2, 2008

Fred Thompson and Joe Lieberman seemed subdued to me as they delivered the major speeches at tonight’s session of the Republican National Convention. Normally, that isn’t the demeanor one projects when delivering a political speech, especially at a political convention; but somehow, it worked. What other demeanor would be appropriate when explaining the details of John McCain’s ordeal in a North Vietnamese prison? From Fred’s speech:

We hear a lot of talk about hope. John McCain knows about hope. That’s all he had to survive on. For propaganda purposes, his captors offered to let him go home. John McCain refused. He refused to leave ahead of men who’d been there longer. He refused to abandon his conscience and his honor, even for his freedom. He refused, even though his captors warned him, “It will be very bad for you.” They were right. It was. The guards cracked ribs, broke teeth off at the gums. They cinched a rope around his arms and painfully drew his shoulders back. Over four days, every two to three hours, the beatings resumed. During one especially fierce beating, he fell, again breaking his arm. John was beaten for communicating with other prisoners. He was beaten for NOT communicating with so-called “peace delegations.” He was beaten for not giving information during interrogations. When his captors wanted the names of other pilots in his squadron, John gave them the names of the offensive line of the Green Bay Packers. Whenever John was returned to his cell — walking if he could, dragged if he couldn’t — as he passed his fellow POWs, he would call out to them. He’d smile … and give them a thumbs-up. For five-and-a-half years this went on. John McCain’s bones may have been broken but his spirit never was.

Subdued, but effective.

Also effective was the “red meat,” at least from Fred.

To deal with these challenges the Democrats present a history making nominee for president. History making in that he is the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for President. Apparently they believe that he would match up well with the history making, Democrat controlled Congress. History making because it’s the least accomplished and most unpopular Congress in our nation’s history.

That got the crowd excited.

Overall Fred and JoeMentum seemed subdued, but that was appropriate on this first night of major speeches because they used it to lay a foundation Obama and Biden cannot match. Fred was especially good at it and the MSM knows this. That’s why the three blind mice didn’t cover it. They are terrified.

As effective as tonight was, subdued won’t cut tomorrow. Palin needs to rip The One a new one.

So John Edwards Is A Candidate Now?

Posted by Mike on August 8, 2008

Today John Edwards admitted that he cheated on his cancer-stricken wife with Rielle Hunter.  When the story first broke, the MSM wouldn’t utter a peep about one of their hero’s scandal.  Conservatives argued that the media silence was based on the fact that Edwards is a Democrat.  Laughably, liberals argued that the MSM was silent because Edwards currently holds no political office and is no longer running for President.

Now that Edwards has owned up to being a scumbag,  the MSM is grudgingly covering the story despite their earlier refusal to do so.  Something isn’t right though.  As was the case before Edwards’ admission, Edwards still holds no political office and is no longer running for President.  The only fact that seems to have changed is that Edwards no longer needs the media to cover up for him.  Weird.

Check out Red State for how the New York Slimes covers Republican non-scandals and Democrat scandals.

John Edwards Can’t Hide Behind His Wife This Time

Posted by Mike on August 6, 2008

Do you ever get the feeling that John “Polly Prissy Pants” Edwards is Ann Coulter’s favorite target? I don’t if that has anything to do with the fact that the former Democrat Vice Presidential nominee is also one of the easiest targets out there, but she sure does seem to enjoy herself when he is the topic.

Today’s Coulter column is of course about the mainstream media’s silence over the story about John Edwards cheating on his cancer-stricken wife compared to their reactions to conservative scandals. According to Annie C., the media’s burning to desire to cover for the Silkster has caused them to refrain from reporting anything about the possible future Cabinet member. She even goes as far to proclaim:

Do you know what this means? At this precise moment in time, I could call Edwards a name that would send me to rehab, and the media wouldn’t be able to report it!

This woman is a genius. On the one hand, the media can’t report anything about Edwards because that would make him newsworthy again, thereby making it more difficult for them to ignore the obvious. On the other hand, here they have Ann Coulter hurling a politically incorrect insult at one of their favorite politicians. Now there’s a dilemma that won’t send a thrill up Chris Matthews’ leg.

This isn’t the first time Ann Coulter has battled John Edwards, but something tells me John won’t be able to hide behind his wife this time.

You Stay Classy MSM

Posted by Mike on July 12, 2008

All decent human beings are saddened by Tony Snow’s death. Which brings me to the AP and the New York Slimes. On the very day Tony Snow passes away, the AP projected their own failures on to the brilliant and decent man:

With a quick-from-the-lip repartee, broadcaster’s good looks and a relentlessly bright outlook — if not always a command of the facts — he became a popular figure around the country to the delight of his White House bosses.

The New York Slimes obit did the same thing.

Incorrectly assuming for the purposes of discussion that the MSM swipes are accurate, is it really appropriate supposedly objective media to attack a decent man on the day he dies? The fact of the matter is that Tony Snow routinely put the lazy and biased American media in their place with accurate facts that contradicted their own unresearched assumptions and left-leaning biases. The media never could stand up to Snow while he was alive. Maybe that is why they are so classless now.

Hat tip: The Corner

UPDATE: Newsbusters has more on the classless AP.

UPDATE 2: Patterico hits the nail on the head.

Cuntry Roads: She Who Must Not Be Named Wins West Virginia Primary

Posted by Mike on May 13, 2008

She Who Must Not Be Named won tonight’s West Virginia Democrat Primary by a landslide. Despite tonight’s lopsided result, little has changed in the race for the other party’s nomination. As was the case before tonight, the primary is essentially over. I mean, she was singing months ago. (I wonder if Barack Obama could name that tune?)

Tonight’s victory actually sheds more light on media bias than it does on the Democrat horse race. Just a few days ago, AFP “reported” on the “fractured” state of the Republican Party, citing primary results showing approximately 25% of Republicans voting for candidates other than McCain as evidence. But that actually begs the question doesn’t it.

If the presumptive Republican candidate winning primaries with 75% of the vote is evidence of a fractured GOP, what does it say about AFP’s favorite party if their presumptive nominee is actually losing primaries even though their race is over? And keep in mind that not only is the Empty Suit still losing primaries despite being the obvious nominee, as of this moment, he’s losing tonight’s primary by the slim margin of 37 points! Yet somehow the narrative is that the GOP is divided. Nice try AFP.

Economy Then and Now; Democrats Then and Now

Posted by Mike on April 10, 2008

The fact that The Corner’s David Freddoso can report economic data from 2008 compared to economic data from 1996 and juxtapose the statistics with Democrat quotes all in about a minute and half is proof positive of the media’s laziness, dishonesty, or both.

UPDATE: The Anchoress has a great roundup of this one, complete with cartoon.
